Elizabeth Walton book launch and Literary Salon

Poetry. Music. Dance. Painting.

I am really excited to announce the collaboration with writer/musician Elizabeth Walton. Finally all the pieces are in place with some beautiful new music being put together with Elizabeth.

After a long and busy international pre-launch season, from Dublin to the South Coast Readers and Writers Festival, join us at Four Winds on Saturday 15 Aug for a special Arts Salon celebrating the launch of How To Read A City, Your Place of Last Resort, Elizabeth Walton’s powerful new poetry collection, published by 5 Islands Press, which is also available from Collins Bookstores in Thirroul.

Hosted by Peter Frankis, this immersive afternoon brings together some of Australia’s leading poets, musicians, dancers and visual artists in a live creative salon. Rather than presenting separate performances, the artists respond to one another in the moment, allowing poetry, improvised music, dance and painting to evolve together in a unique and unrepeatable performance.

Centred on themes of landscape, environmental concern, the afternoon explores the possibilities of ecopoetry through multiple art forms. Poetry becomes music, movement inspires image, and each performance shapes the next in an unfolding conversation about our relationship with the natural world.

Featured poets include Elizabeth Walton, as the launch of her new work, How to Read a City, Your Place of Last Resort, which Elizabeth has just toured in London, Leeds and Dublin as part of a Neilma Sidney Literary Travel fellowship. Joining Elizabeth will be Nigel FeatherstoneJen Webb and Sandra Renew. Live improvised music will be performed by Elizabeth (piano) and Richard Lawson (synth and percussion), with improvised dance by Sydney Dance Company artists and a live painting by acclaimed landscape artist Justin Pearson, created in response to the performance.

Following the performance, guests are invited to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments and champagne, to celebrate the launch. Books and artworks will be available for purchase.

This is a free event, but places are limited and bookings are essential.
