New single Harketh all you nations out now on youtube/itunes

http://youtu.be/gXt_mtcbLGg

The latest offering is the last single off the ‘In your Face’ album. It has a much more bold/stark arrangement with minimal instrumentation unlike my other ostentatious psych/electronica and has a pretty heavy message and imagery.

My good musical mates Paul Greene and Bryan Estepa have rated this one as a fave when they first heard the rush of the album back in January this year…live it kicks arse with fuzz bass and drums and just a bit of guitar at the end

Fig Jam @ first ‘Farmfresh’ pics

Well a small appreciative crowd were on hand out on the farm for the first ‘Farmfresh’. After Rob Binks and Oli Statham warmed up proceedings Fig Jam played in 2 guises; first with replacement drummer on the night Ben who is only 14 and it was his first ever gig

…then a sizzling Electonica display with Erin on keys and myself on Drums. It was the best electronic set i have ever delivered and gave me much food for thought as for a permanent return to drums live…it just works so well. Everyone who saw it said it was just outright amazing…pity out of all these there is none of me on drums. We ran through some stuff off Figtree Renaissance II [Theme for lost civilization /Egypt] versions and remixes of Spacelab by Kraftwerk and Idealistic by Digitalism, new song by Erin ‘Choco Balls’ new song by Richard ‘Blitz the blog’ and an oldie unreleased Purple Patch plus theme for foggy London nights. An amazing experience plus a big drum jam at end over the top of the whole Daft Punk first album…

Kings of Congo Congo rip it up Mudgee

The percussion group I lead has been doing its thing for just over a year now. Weve gone ythrough a revolving door of gaining and losing new drummers all the time and sometimes its been really hard trying to maintain a core of 6 drummers…but…the other night it was all worth it.

We were to play in the street in Mudgee for the Wine Festival and only then as a little side act for the “Main acts”…no PA

We blitzed it and the crowd flocked to see us and by the end we had lots of little kids dancing round us…it wqs an awesome experience…Percussion is primal and it doesnt get any better than this.

Next gig…maybe a mini tour with Southerly Change early December down the coast at Brackets and Jam Kincumber/Wollongong and Nowra.

Richard Lawson and Fig Jam Sept 2012

Well…after a bit of navel gazing, writing and recording and general ime out, I linked up with 2 young dudes who also happen to be multi instrumentalists and into the same sort of music Im into. Erin Kelly plays Bass/Piano and Drums and Josh Gow plays Drums and Guitar and also sings a bit. We jammed back in late July and hit it off from the word go.

After a few weeks of rehearsals we just did our first show at a winery up in mudgee and boy did it sound refreshing. Some of the songs off In your face got the treatment and the assembled crowd seemed to really dig it.

Have a few more shows planned and Ive also been writing some new electronica with Erin…one of her more memorable moments is entitled “Erin clubbing Simon Cowell to death”

Live at Robert Steins Sept 15 2012

Culburra Beach Music Festival

I made an appearance at the Culburra Beach Music Festival last Friday 11 May. It was the last gig for the In your Face East Coast tour and definitely the biggest and best. Sandwiched in between the awesome ‘Caravana Sun’ and my mates Ben and Mick with Southerly Change it was a hard spot to fill…but I think it went over well. People really didnt know me from a bar of soap so I pulled out the most eclectic set I could and by this stage of the tour I’d incorporated Live drums into the set with much success…it means running back and forth between the guitar and drums and needing 2 mic stands onstage…but I was able to insert some nice atmospherics in between songs. Pulled out old numbers like Egypt, Purple Patch and Hit it and had a guest djembe player in event organiser Damion Stirling help out there. Sharon Lee Twiss continues to grow as a singer/percussionist onstage with me as well and some of the comments afterwards were highly encouraging.

Im going to retire to my studio to write up new stuff and try to get my life back a bit…its been 2 months on the road and all the while still teaching in Mudgee…lots of kilometres travelled but hey I learnt heaps and played some unreal supports to Genevieve Chadwick / Southerly Change  and Bryan Estepa.
